21st International Symposium on Electrochemical Machining Technology (INSECT)
Electrochemical machining (ECM) is becoming more and more important as the requirements on material properties, manufacturing technology efficiency, surface functionalization, and workpiece quality continue to rise. ECM is used mostly in the aircraft and automotive industries, as well as in the manufacturing of tools and medical devices. In addition to common metals and alloys, customers are increasingly interested in materials that are difficult to machine. These include cemented carbides, titanium, metallic glasses, and ceramics such as silicon carbide. For that reason, extensive knowledge of the fundamental electrochemical processes is just as essential as the interaction between processing and material properties, and a further development of the technical equipment.
For future challenges, close cooperation between researchers and industrial partners is a fundamental condition for innovative results and their rapid transfer to industrial applications. The INSECT brings together academia and industry, and offers a perfect platform to exchange ideas and contribute knowledge in the field of Electrochemical Machining.
This year, the symposium will take place in Chemnitz at the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU.
