The production of geared components for use in modern transmissions requires top performance from the processes, machines and tools involved. In the machining production of gears, our research focuses on increasing productivity and process reliability. However, topics relating to acoustic gear optimizations are also coming to the fore due to the advancement of electromobility. We therefore devote ourselves to topological generating grinding, the development of optimized tools for generating and profile grinding and the systematic process development for gear skiving. For the complex process of gear skiving, we can use modeling and simulation to reliably design machining strategies and cutting tools.
Research methods
We take a holistic approach to gear cutting tasks, i.e. we can not only examine individual processes in great detail, but also extend the scope to include the entire process chain.
When designing and developing cutting gear technologies, we draw on a wide range of tools and the extensive experience of our employees. A customized process is designed based on a specific gearing case. The calculation of tool geometry and process kinematics is supported by the use of special software. Simulations also provide meaningful predictions about the behavior of tools, machines and workpiece material during machining.
In order to verify and evaluate the design result, the process is then tested in our test fields. We can cover a wide range of gear cutting processes with our production machines. The influence of process parameters and variants on the machining result and process behavior is determined in systematic test series. The evaluation of gear properties such as geometry, load-bearing capacity or acoustic behavior is carried out on special test benches with the appropriate measurement and evaluation technology. When analyzing the results, correlations are established with the manufacturing processes, thus driving their further development.
