Whether in a production environment, in road traffic, or in our private lives, we are surrounded by sound everywhere, which we often perceive as unwanted noise or unpleasant noise. In automotive engineering, but also in mechanical engineering and consumer goods manufacturing, noise reduction and the elimination of disturbing noises are becoming increasingly important. However, noise can also have a positive impact on a product: the design of a vehicle- or customer-specific noise character (sound design) is becoming increasingly important, particularly in automotive engineering. Sound design can contribute to the distinctive character of a vehicle.
In the automotive industry, the hunt for disturbing noises has long been part of the business – even at an early stage of series development. In order to be able to take successful countermeasures, it is necessary to obtain information about sound sources, their position, and their contribution to the overall noise as early as possible. This is the only way to incorporate optimization measures into the design process in good time and tackle the problem at its root.
Fraunhofer IWU has a wide range of methods for analysis, simulation, and optimization for the entire chain of sound generation (excitation, transmission, sound radiation) for a variety of applications. This enables you to effectively combat noise at every stage of the development process.
