Lightweight construction is, quite rightly, a growing trend of our time, aimed at conserving raw materials and minimizing energy consumption throughout a product’s lifecycle. Highly complex composite materials are often sought after, typically consisting of fiber-reinforced plastic composites. However, these have limited thermal resistance, for example, and are only partially recyclable at the end of the product’s life cycle.
We offer sandwich structures with aluminum face sheets and an aluminum foam core as a purely metallic solution that meets your requirements. The aluminum face sheets absorb applied loads. The aluminum foam core is very lightweight and reliably maintains the required spacing between the face sheets. The composite partners are in metal-to-metal contact, meaning no adhesive is required for the composite manufacturing process. The result is excellent recyclability, high thermal resistance, and significant composite strength. The semi-finished product is abbreviated as AAS – the acronym stands for aluminum-aluminum foam sandwich.
Depending on your specific requirements and applications, aluminum-aluminum foam sandwiches can be manufactured in series with dimensions of up to 3000 mm x 1500 mm, which corresponds to the standard large-format sheet metal size. We are happy to advise you on specific questions and potential applications for AAS.
