Fraunhofer Alliance GENERATIV has a new name

»Fraunhofer Competence Field Additive Manufacturing« focusing on sustainability in 2021

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is restructuring its areas of research to meet industry’s challenges better. Since the beginning of 2021, the »Fraunhofer Alliance Additive Manufacturing« has continued its cooperative work as »Fraunhofer Competence Field Additive Manufacturing«.

Under the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft logo, the »Fraunhofer Competence Field Additive Manufacturing« continues to pool the Fraunhofer expertise on industrial 3D printing in great scientific detail. Currently, the cooperation comprises 18 Fraunhofer institutes.

The activities are still focused on the following five main topics: engineering, materials, technologies, quality, software and simulation. Joint participation in trade fairs and conferences are planned for 2021, for example, at Rapid.Tech (Erfurt).

The competence field will again offer its specific expert forum at the Rapid.Tech: Six Fraunhofer institutes will present the latest research results associated with sustainability – the congress’s focus. For instance, topological optimizations will be presented in laser powder bed fusion (PBF-LB/M) and in binder jetting (BJ). In addition, presentations will be given on reducing process times and energy consumption through additively manufactured and functionalized ceramic components. Furthermore, sustainability in metal 3D printing in a production environment will be presented as well as additive manufacturing using copper, and quality assurance will be illustrated in additive laser powder bed fusion (PBF-LB/M).
