smart³ I materials – solutions – growth
One of ten winning consortiums in the federal programme "Zwanzig20- Partnership for Innovation" by the German Ministry of Education and Research
Smart³ is one of ten winning consortiums in the federal programme "Zwanzig20- Partnership for Innovation" by the German Ministry of Education and Research. Over 50 consortia competed in the "Zwanzig20" programme over a total of €500 million in funding. Smart³ is coordinated by Fraunhofer IWU.
From 2013-2019 smart³ will develop intelligent, market-ready materials and components with a focus on mobility, health, energy and security. Three strategic start projects are being developed:
"Connecting the Future" stands for the cooperation across different sectors and industries. Together, a new cooperative network and novel forms of cooperation are established that involve sociologists, designers and economists alongside engineers and material scientists. They all work together across their sectors and industries to develop and implement new solutions with smart materials.
"Designing the Future" is the next step of the smart³ project. The public is made aware of the possibilities and the concept of smart materials. Modern design and artistic creativity unlock new communicative channels and the “lab of the future” presents a meeting space for scientists, entrepreneurs and societal actors.
This leads to smart technological concepts and applications developed in the "Securing the Future" project.
